Cyber Media Guidelines
Freedom of opinion, freedom of expression and freedom of the press are human rights protected by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Cyber media are part of these freedoms, so they must be managed responsibly and professionally, in compliance with Law No. 40 of 1999 on the Press and the Journalistic Code of Ethics.
AyamKita has drawn up these guidelines based on the Cyber Media Reporting Guidelines (Pedoman Pemberitaan Media Siber) issued by the Indonesian Press Council (Dewan Pers), and applies them to the management of all content on this site.
1. Scope
- Cyber media are all forms of media that use the internet as a platform and carry out journalistic activities in accordance with the Press Law and the standards set by the Press Council.
- User-generated content is any content created and published by users of cyber media, including articles, images, comments, audio, video and other uploads attached to cyber media.
2. Verification and Balanced Reporting
- In principle, every news story must be verified.
- News that may harm another party requires verification to ensure that it is fair and balanced.
- An exception applies only when the news concerns an urgent public interest; the first source of the news is clearly identified, credible and competent; the subject of the news cannot be located or interviewed; and the outlet informs readers that the story still requires further verification.
- Once a story is published under this exception, the editors must continue the verification and publish the results with a link to the unverified story.
3. User-Generated Content
If AyamKita opens a space for user-generated content, such as a comment section, the following provisions apply:
- Users must agree to terms and conditions that prohibit content that is false, defamatory, sadistic or obscene; content that contains prejudice or hatred related to ethnicity, religion, race or intergroup relations, or that advocates violence; and content that discriminates on the basis of gender or language, or that demeans the dignity of people who are weak, poor, sick, or mentally or physically disabled.
- The editors have the authority to edit or remove user-generated content that violates these provisions.
- The editors provide a complaint mechanism for user-generated content that violates these provisions and act on each complaint within 2 x 24 hours of receiving it.
4. Errata, Corrections and Right of Reply
- Errata, corrections and the right of reply are governed by the Press Law, the Journalistic Code of Ethics and the Right of Reply Guidelines issued by the Press Council.
- Errata, corrections and/or replies are linked to the story that was corrected or replied to, and state the time they were published.
- If a story is redistributed by other cyber media, responsibility for the story remains with the outlet that produced it, while the outlets that redistributed it must also publish the erratum, correction or reply.
- Cyber media that fail to honor the right of reply may be sanctioned under the provisions of the Press Law.
5. Retraction of News
- Published news may not be retracted because of censorship by parties outside the editorial team, except in matters relating to ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup relations, decency, a child's future, a victim's traumatic experience, or other special considerations determined by the Press Council.
- Other cyber media must follow the retraction of quoted news when the original outlet has retracted it.
- Every retraction must be accompanied by a reason that is announced to the public.
6. Advertising
- Cyber media must clearly distinguish between news products and advertising.
- Any news story, article or content that is advertising and/or paid content must be labeled "advertorial", "advertisement", "ads", "sponsored" or other wording that makes clear the content is an advertisement.
7. Copyright
AyamKita respects copyright as governed by applicable laws and regulations.
8. Publication of the Guidelines
These guidelines are published openly on the AyamKita website so that users can read them easily.
9. Disputes
Final judgment on disputes over the implementation of these guidelines rests with the Press Council.
