Evaluate Your Current Feed

Before getting into how to make a Bangkok chicken feed mix, take a moment to evaluate how you have been feeding your birds so far. There are actually many cheap, easy-to-find ingredients that can serve as a main source of nutrition and protein for Bangkok chickens, such as tofu pulp, rice bran, broken rice and tubers. So ask yourself: does the feed you have been giving really meet your chickens' nutritional needs? You certainly do not have to feed corn, red rice or unhulled rice every day. Besides being expensive, that approach can leave your chickens' nutrition neglected. So how do you make good feed for Bangkok chickens?

Bangkok Chicken Feed Mixes

Here is how to mix feed for Bangkok chickens based on their age and needs.

  1. Bangkok Chickens Aged 0-3 Months

For newly hatched chicks, farmers usually give commercial feed pellets or concentrate. Once the chicks reach one month old, you can mix the commercial feed with other ingredients such as cooked white rice. To do this, combine the feed with the rice and add a little water. Wait until the rice swells and softens, then give the mixture to your chicks. You can also mix the feed with tofu pulp or rice bran the same way. This clearly saves you far more money than feeding commercial pellets all the time.

  1. Young Growing Birds and Breeders

Next is the feed mix for young growing Bangkok chickens, known as lancuran, and for breeding birds. Lancuran are chickens from about 4 months old until they reach adulthood. At this age, their nutritional needs must be met so they grow to their full potential and stay free of disease. There are two feed mixes you can use for birds this age. The first is similar to the mix for young chicks, except that corn replaces the commercial feed. So you can mix corn with rice bran, unhulled rice and cooked rice. The second option is to make a cooked feed. Cook cracked corn or white rice and mix it with other ingredients such as sweet potato, fish meal or vegetables. Besides preserving the nutrients in the ingredients, this method is also much cheaper.

  1. Adult Bangkok Chickens

Bangkok chickens are considered adults from 7 months old. At this age, it is best to feed them red rice and unhulled rice. You can also give them the same mix used for the young growing birds above, but in half portions only. So in the morning, give them the mixed feed, and in the afternoon, give them red rice or unhulled rice.
